The award-winning Lancaster Maritime Museum was designed by Richard Gillow as a Customs House, and opened as a museum in 1985. Housed in the former Custom House of 1764 in a delightful riverside setting, Lancaster Maritime Museum covers the maritime trade of Lancaster, the history of the port, the Lancaster Canal and the fishing industry of the Lune Estuary and Morecambe Bay using sound, smells, reconstructions and audiovisuals. Features include four restored local fishing vessels.

Shop, café, toilets accessible to disabled people, assistance dogs allowed, induction loop, baby changing facilities. Disabled access to different areas of the museum varies. Please call the museum for more information before your visit.

Lancaster museums are open on bank holidays between Easter and October only.  Last admission to the Warehouse building is 40 minutes before closing. Last admission to the overall museum is 20 minutes before closing.
