INTRODUCTION

Access to and use of this site and the information contained on it is subject to these terms and conditions. No other conditions shall apply and if you do not wish to be bound by them please leave the site now.

You are responsible for bringing these terms and conditions to the attention of anyone with whom you share material you have gathered from this site.

This site has been put together to comply with English law and is hosted in the United Kingdom. All visits to the site shall be governed by English law.

Virtual-Lancaster may, at any time, modify these terms and conditions. Any modifications will become effective on the posting of the modified terms and conditions on this page.

Users found to be in breach of these terms and conditions may have their accounts suspended or permissions revoked until further notice.

DEFINITIONS

“Content” refers to any material published now or previously on Virtual-Lancaster, including the virtual-lancaster.net website and/or its peripheral applications, such as feeds, newsletter, social media etc. It includes text, images, videos and any other items.
“Author” refers to the User who has submitted content for publication via their Virtual-Lancaster User Account.
“Creator” refers to the person who originally created any material submitted for publication, including, but not exclusively, text, images, video, audio.

PROPERTY RIGHTS

Among its roles, Virtual-Lancaster is an archive of the contemporary history of the area it serves. In submitting content for publication the Author is agreeing to license its use to Virtual-Lancaster in perpetuity.

Authors of content retain the right to publish their content on other platforms. Original text, photographs and other media published on the virtual-lancaster website remain the creative property of their Creators.

Links to articles can be freely shared on social media. Content published on Virtual-Lancaster is freely available for outside use on other online platforms that conform to our ‘Acceptable Use’ policy on condition that a citation link is provided with it to the page on which it is published on Virtual-Lancaster.Net.

Images may not be shared to other 3rd party websites via image links from those sites to the Image URLs on Virtual-Lancaster as this method of reproducing images is burdensome to the original image host and increases costs. For permission to link from another site to an image on Virtual-Lancaster (as opposed to the content page in which it appears) please email ed@virtual-lancaster.net explaining the need.

It is the responsibility of the Author to ensure that that before submitting content created by others (ie images) for publication they have its Creator’s permission to do so.

FREE LISTINGS

We are only able to give free listings to events taking place in the Lancaster & Morecambe area – this extends south as far as the northern edge of Garstang and North as far as Arnside.

Out-of-area listings may be accepted if they comply with our terms of use and local community interests. A fee of £5 per year is required for out-of-area listings.

Out-of-area event listings will be accepted free if they include transport from within our area to the event and back again. The listing time must be the departure time and it must include details about this and how to book it.

We do not accept listings that don’t contain a link to the organiser’s website or social networking site.

CHANGES TO CONTENT

Changes to published content must by approved by our Moderators prior to their publication. Authors may submit revisions of content items for approval for publication at any time.  The Editor’s decision is final.

REMOVAL OF CONTENT

If your submitted item has not yet been approved for publication, we will always respect requests that it be deleted and removed from our servers.
Items already published on Virtual-Lancaster cannot be removed without the approval of our moderators. Requests for removal / deletion should be sent by the author to ed@virtual-lancaster.net with a written explanation of the reasons for deletion.

If you have reason to believe that any content should be amended or removed and you are not the author, please send an email to ed@virtual-lancaster.net explaining your interest and reasons.

COMPLAINTS

If you have a complaint about an item appearing on the Virtual-Lancaster website or newsletter that cannot be resolved, in the first instance, via the ‘Comments’ option’ below it, please email your complaint to ed@virtual-lancaster.net.
Please include the URL link to the page on which the content appears that is the subject of your complaint and clearly explain the reasons for your complaint. We take every effort to ensure that complaints are dealt with speedily but our volunteer time is limited and we ask for your patience. Your complaint will be dealt with as soon as possible and within a maximum of 28 days of receipt.
Virtual-Lancaster retains the right not to respond to emails containing abusive language. If something has troubled you, please just explain the problem and we’ll do our best.

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

No part of this site may be used for any immoral, criminal or other illegal purposes, nor for any purpose which violates established practice or protocols on the Internet, nor for purposes which make profligate use of network resources. Any person posting such material will be personally responsible in law, including prior to and following its removal from the site.

All of the following are considered unacceptable;

The transmission of computer viruses.
Unauthorised access to the network management equipment of Virtual-Lancaster, or related Internet providers.
Unauthorised transmission of copyrighted material.
Mass-mailing (spamming) of unsolicited advertising and/or marketing material.
Embedded / subliminal advertising
The transmission or publishing of
– defamatory material
– material deemed pornographic or obscene
– material which incites violations of UK law
– material intended to deceive or give a false impression
– material deemed likely, by Virtual-Lancaster editorial personnel, to encourage bigotry or generalised negative stereotyping of identifiable population groups.
– material which promotes alcohol, gambling or sex trade

Content on this site is intended to be free of bias from all groups specifically but not exclusively including: commercial and business interests; pressure groups; religious organisations; charities; political parties; local and national governments and international organisations.

Contributors are expected to disclose any relevant interests (e.g. political, commercial etc.) when posting or submitting material for inclusion on this site. Failure to do so may lead to the exclusion or removal of such.

Users found to be in breach of the VL Acceptable Use Policy may have their accounts suspended or permissions revoked until further notice.

The Virtual-Lancaster Editor reserves the right to publish, edit, remove or not publish any material posted or submitted by any individual or organisation, without providing any explanation, including material originally solicited or published by Virtual-Lancaster. Virtual-Lancaster reserves the right not to be drawn into discussion with any individual or organisation regarding any aspect of this policy. In all decisions relating to the inclusion or exclusion of material posted or submitted, the Editor’s decision is final.

PRIVACY STATEMENT

We collect certain information or data about you when you use www.virtual-lancaster.net. This can include your IP address, and details of which version of web browser you used, information on how you use the site, using cookies and page tagging techniques to help us improve the website.

This helps us to improve the site by monitoring how you use it. We can’t personally identify you using this data. We store your data on secure servers.

If you create a login we also store your username and email address securely. It helps you by allowing you personal access via your login to the content you have authored and stored. It helps us as a community by enabling us to share each others’ contributions.

Transmitting information over the internet is generally not completely secure, and we can’t ever fully guarantee the security of your data. Any data you transmit is at your own risk. We have procedures and security features in place to try and keep your data secure once we receive it. We won’t share your information with any other organisations for marketing, market research or commercial purposes, and we don’t pass on your details to other websites. Virtual-lancaster.net contains links to other websites. Some of our pages also contain forms, buttons or adverts linked to other websites. This privacy policy only applies to this website, and doesn’t cover other websites that we link to.

Items that were last saved more than two months ago and not submitted for publication it may be auto-deleted when a site ‘housecleaning’ is scheduled. You cannot use this website for storage of text not destined for publication on this site.

COOKIES
